Dopo quasi un anno siamo tornati a visitare i campi sperimentali delle nuove varietà di tappeto erboso presso l’azienda agricola dell’università di Padova. Il dott. Macolino ha illustrato lo stato della ricerca e quello che sta facendo in queste ultime sperimentazioni. Ci sono alcune nuove varietà di loietto perenne cosiddetto strisciante che sono in prova sia per valutarne l’effettiva qualità che, molto interesante, cercare di capire se risultano più competitive nei confronti dell’infestante più diffusa, la poa annua. Questi loietti sono già arrivati anche sul mercato italiano, parliamo ad esempio della varietà Rpr di Barenbrug e di New Orleans di Jackleen seeds.
Altre sperimentazioni in corso riguardano la verifica della resistenza al calpestamento. Per fare queste prove viene utilizzato attrezzo trainato da un trattore con tre rulli, di cui due dentati a simulare i tacchetti dei calciatori e uno liscio, che vengono trascinati sulle parcelle nove volte la settimana (guardate la foto). Vedremo quali varietà resisteranno dopo alcuni anni di maltrattamento…
